Paul Glazier

Fine Artist

Based in Amsterdam, his work as an artist covers many areas, including (currently) sound, video and photographic images. The sound-work varies from creating sound environments for installations or exhibitions to musical compositions independent of any visual considerations. Often utilizing and manipulating field recordings and samples, his work falls loosely into the tradition of electro-acoustic music. Similarly, his video work varies between fairly abstract and more documentary in style. His background as a fine-art painter is discernible in much of his work, in his approach to form and composition.

He says of his content: “Themes are generally implicit rather than explicit and the subjective experience of the viewer often as important as my own expression.”

This is particularly evident in recent video works in which he investigates how visual and audio inputs modulate each other within the viewer's own personal dynamic, with some people creating a narrative from the input whilst other's are content to remain in the purely abstract realm.

“One could say that the creativity of perception is my underlying preoccupation.”

Island Memories

Paul recently released a book of photography on the Hebrides Islands. He has visited the Hebrides regularly since 1978 and the islands have become a place of great significance and inspiration for him. These photographs were taken around 1985.

All profits from the sale of this book will go to the Comunn Eachdraidh Bharraidh & Bhatarsaidh (Barra and Vatersay Historical Society).
